The Knitting Smock was the first installment of a small (yet perfectly formed!) range of Tales: over-pieces that make you look funky, keep you clean and can be thrown over pretty much any outfit. Whether you’re spinning, weaving, dyeing, knitting, baking a cake, or, on one occasion (that we are aware of), getting married, Smocks can be dressed up or down.
Length from shoulder (size 2): 90 cm (36 in) front and back, dipping to 115 cm (45 in) at the sides – slightly shorter in the smaller sizes.
NEW: following customer feedback, we now have a size 3 petite available, both in the Smock as well as the Tabard shape. In the picture showing 2 Smocks, you can see that the size 3 petite is shorter than the regular size 3. The 3 petite is shorter throughout, ideally shaped to accommodate shorter frames. As a rule of thumb, if you are a size 3 then order the 3 petite if you are 5'4" or less.
Following 2 successful winter seasons offering limited edition wool Smocks, we now introduce limited edition garments every winter. Please sign up for the newsletter (at the bottom of the homepage) if you would like to be kept informed of any Layercake news.
ABOUT OUT OF STOCKS: if a certain fabric/size shows as out of stock but the website allows you to place an order for it, it means we DO have more fabric, the garment just needs to be made for you, so if you place an order for an out of stock item, please allow 7-10 days for delivery.
"Last chance": colours marked as "last chance" are going to be replaced with a different colour, and we are currently phasing out our linen/cotton blend completely, so if you are keen to own one, please beware that, once out of stock, it will no longer be available and we cannot take special orders for it.
Following here is a guideline for their fit; keep in mind that the bust measurement of the garment is 2 inches bigger than the recommended maximum bust size:
Size 0: bust up to 90 cm (36 in)
Size 1: bust up to 102 cm (41 in)
Size 2: bust up to 122 cm (48 in)
Size 3: bust up to 137 cm (54 in)
OUTFIT: The complete outfit is a combination of the Spinning Skirt in Chocolate cotton/linen blend, a Knitting Smock in Stone and a silk Dart scarf - one of our knitting patterns.
