Layercake Loves: Spiral Bridge Closure by Jul

by: Tall Yarns

Founded over 7 years ago, JUL works with artisans in the United States and Fair Trade in Indonesia to develop exciting and innovative handmade accessories. One of their more unusual lines is a collection of fastenings that are screwed into the knitting without doing any damage and holding e.g. scarves, cowls, wraps, poncho's or cardigans draped or closed.

The Spiral Bridge Closure is a substantial piece and therefore only suitable for wear with substantial knits (DK weight and up). It is 11.5 cm (4.5 in) at its widest point and 9 cm (3.5 in) high. It has 2 points of fastening (where the round shapes are on the left and right of the main shape). At those points, a 5 mm (1/4 in) thich stem gets pushed through the knitted fabric. Leather discs, 4cm (1.5 in) in diameter then catch the stem in the back, which is held into place with a small screw.

The Bridge Closure is not meant to be done up and undone during wear, but can be re-positioned as one wishes.

Just like the Bohemia petticoats we sell, when we encounter garments or accessories that fit perfectly with our Layercake look, we may decide to add them to the collection, either temporarily or more permanently. Since there is more than one Layercake endorsed product, Layercake Loves now has its own category within the Layercake line-up on the website.
